Play The Game

This project, which was my very first experience making a game in Unity, was realized for the COMP 376 - Introduction to Game Development at Concordia. The goal of the course was to apply the concepts of rational game design from Act 1 of Ubisoft's Game Creators' Odyssey course (certificate attached below).

This narrative horror game invites the player to rekindle with his beloved Teddy, who convinces him to enter an abandoned toy factory to aid a screaming child. Because Teddy can do no wrong, the player listens, finding himself trapped in the decrepit building. Unfortunately for the player, he soon discovers that the rumors about the factory being haunted are very true. Will the toys let the player escape ? Or will they make one more victim in their vendetta against the being that turned them into these monsters ?...

For this project, my main role was narrative design. Based on the team choice to develop a horror game in the veins of Amnesia, I wrote the entire story, developing both the factory and the mystique around it as well as the characters, making sure they each had a clear motivation. I also imagined the two endings and wrote all the flavor text on the collectible items.

On par with the narrative designer role, I was responsible for most of the hand-drawn sprites and animations, ranging from the main characters to interactable objects as well as set pieces. I also programmed and integrated the main menu and pause menu, did the sound design, and programmed the first script for the bear enemy.

Outside of the Unity Engine, I wrote the Game Design Document in its entirety and organized team meetings and ways of communication (Discord server, Google Drive). I also participated in level design discussions, on puzzle design, and game flow.
