This project was realized for the COMP 476 - Advanced Game Development at Concordia. The goal of the course was to showcase game AI such as Seek and Flee functions as well as decision trees for NPCs like the boss. We also participated in Act 2 of Ubisoft's Game Creators' Odyssey course (certificate attached below).
In this 2D pixel action shooter game, the player becomes the exiled Bubblegum Prince, seeking to claim the throne usurped by the evil Onion King. Using guns, his trusty sword, and his quick wit, he must defeat the vegetable armies that terrorize the lands of the Food Kingdom, eventually confronting the king himself.
Despite the focus of the project not being on story and design, my team and I agreed to give it our best and make it into as much of a finished product as we could. I was mainly in charge of the narrative design, which guided my team in deciding which behaviors to develop based on the enemies that made sense within the world. I wrote the story that appears at the beginning and end of the game and created both the world and the characters that inhabit it.
In addition, I created some sprites and animations, the Onion King being the most notable one. I also programmed the main menu and pause menu, and organized the team meetings and documents. I was mainly responsible for the writing of the Game Design Document as well. Another thing I was able to accomplish for this project was communicating with a musician outside of the team to compose original music for the game. Hearing this brand new and unique soundtrack for the first time was one of my favorite moments during development.
